The STP & WTP Operator is responsible for the operation, monitoring, inspection, and maintenance of Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) and Water Treatment Plants (WTP). The role ensures continuous, safe, and efficient plant operation while maintaining water quality in compliance with regulatory standards, environmental regulations, and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
Operate and monitor STP and WTP equipment to ensure efficient plant performance.
Conduct routine inspections of pumps, motors, blowers, filters, dosing systems, valves, and pipelines.
Monitor and record plant operating parameters, including flow rates, pressure, pH, turbidity, TDS, chlorine residual, dissolved oxygen, and chemical dosing levels.
Perform routine preventive maintenance and minor repairs on mechanical and electrical equipment.
Operate Reverse Osmosis (RO), multimedia filters, activated carbon filters, softeners, UV systems, and chlorination systems where applicable.
Collect water and wastewater samples for laboratory testing and maintain testing records.
Adjust chemical dosing based on water quality analysis and operational requirements.
Monitor sludge handling, dewatering systems, and disposal activities in accordance with environmental regulations.
Identify equipment faults and report breakdowns promptly to the Maintenance Supervisor.
Maintain daily operating logs, maintenance records, and equipment history.
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, health and safety requirements, and company procedures.
Maintain housekeeping and cleanliness of the treatment plant.
Coordinate with maintenance teams during shutdowns and emergency repairs.
Respond to emergency situations and restore plant operations promptly.
Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor or Facility Manager.
Qualifications
Diploma or Technical Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Treatment, or a related field.
Certification in Water Treatment Plant or Sewage Treatment Plant Operations is preferred.
Valid operator licence/certification (if required by local regulations).
Experience
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in operating and maintaining STP and WTP systems.
Experience in Facility Management, industrial plants, commercial buildings, hospitals, universities, airports, or municipal utilities is preferred.
Experience with RO plants, sewage treatment systems, and water distribution systems is an advantage.
Technical Skills
Knowledge of STP and WTP operation and process control.
Familiarity with biological, chemical, and physical treatment processes.
Knowledge of pumps, blowers, compressors, dosing pumps, filters, and valves.
Ability to operate RO systems, chlorination systems, and chemical dosing equipment.
Basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
Ability to read P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and technical manuals.
Familiarity with SCADA, PLC, BMS, or automation systems is an advantage.
Knowledge of laboratory testing procedures and water quality standards.
