Description

The Appliance Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of domestic and commercial electrical appliances. The technician ensures that all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards, manufacturer guidelines, and health and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities
Install, inspect, maintain, and repair electrical appliances, including:
Refrigerators and freezers
Washing machines and dryers
Dishwashers
Electric ovens, cookers, and microwaves
Water dispensers
Electric water heaters
Air purifiers and small electrical appliances
Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults using appropriate testing equipment.
Replace defective components such as thermostats, compressors, motors, heating elements, timers, switches, relays, and control boards.
Perform preventive maintenance to minimise equipment failures and extend appliance life.
Test appliances after repair to ensure safe and reliable operation.
Read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and service instructions.
Maintain accurate service reports, maintenance records, and spare parts usage.
Recommend replacement of appliances when repair is not economical.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency breakdowns.
Maintain an inventory of tools, equipment, and spare parts.
Ensure all work complies with electrical safety standards and company policies.
Keep work areas clean and maintain good housekeeping practices.
Coordinate with supervisors and other maintenance staff to complete assigned work.
Perform any other duties assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
Qualifications
Diploma, ITI, or Technical Certificate in Electrical, Electronics, Refrigeration, or a related field.
Certification in appliance repair or electrical maintenance is an advantage.
Experience
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in appliance installation, maintenance, and repair.
Experience in Facility Management, hotels, hospitals, residential compounds, or commercial buildings is preferred.
Experience with both domestic and commercial appliances is an advantage.
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of electrical and electronic appliance systems.
Ability to diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, and electronic faults.
Knowledge of refrigeration systems and compressor operation.
Ability to use multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers, and other diagnostic tools.
Ability to read wiring diagrams and technical manuals.
Familiarity with preventive maintenance programmes and CMMS/CAFM systems is an advantage.

May require shift work, weekends, overtime, and emergency call-outs.
Ability to lift and move appliances safely.
Must be physically fit to work in confined spaces and at heights when required.

Equipment uptime and reliability.
Mean Time to Repair (MTTR).
Number of repeat service calls.
Compliance with safety procedures and zero safety violations.
Accuracy of maintenance records and reports.
Customer satisfaction with maintenance services.
