Description

The Pump Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of various types of pumps and pumping systems. The role ensures that all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company policies, manufacturer recommendations, and applicable safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
Install, inspect, maintain, and repair centrifugal, submersible, booster, sewage, fire, and water transfer pumps.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on pumps, motors, valves, and associated equipment.
Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults and carry out necessary repairs.
Align pumps and motors using appropriate alignment tools.
Replace bearings, seals, impellers, couplings, shafts, gaskets, and other worn components.
Inspect and maintain pump control panels, pressure switches, float switches, and related electrical controls.
Monitor pump performance, pressure, flow rates, vibration, and operating conditions.
Carry out routine lubrication and equipment servicing as per maintenance schedules.
Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns and restore equipment to operational status.
Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, P&IDs, and equipment manuals.
Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and service logs.
Coordinate with supervisors and other maintenance personnel during shutdowns and repairs.
Ensure compliance with safety procedures, permit-to-work systems, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Perform other duties assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
Qualifications
Diploma or ITI/Technical Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related trade.
Certification in pump maintenance or rotating equipment is an advantage.
Valid driving licence (preferred, if required).
Experience
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in pump installation and maintenance.
Experience in Facility Management, Operations & Maintenance, industrial plants, water treatment, sewage systems, or commercial buildings is preferred.
Experience with fire pump systems and booster pump stations is an advantage.
Technical Skills
Knowledge of centrifugal, vertical, submersible, booster, fire, sewage, and circulation pumps.
Understanding of mechanical seals, bearings, couplings, impellers, and alignment techniques.
Ability to troubleshoot pump and motor faults.
Knowledge of basic electrical systems related to pump controls.
Ability to use measuring instruments and maintenance tools.
Familiarity with preventive maintenance programmes and CMMS/CAFM systems is an advantage.

Accuracy and timeliness of maintenance reports.
