Job Title

ABB SCADA Operator

Job Summary

The ABB SCADA Operator is responsible for monitoring, operating, and maintaining the ABB SCADA system to ensure the safe, reliable, and continuous operation of electrical power distribution and associated field equipment. The role includes responding to alarms, coordinating with maintenance teams, troubleshooting communication issues, and maintaining accurate operational records.

Key Responsibilities

- Monitor the ABB SCADA system and ensure continuous operation of electrical assets.
- Operate circuit breakers, switches, and other field devices through SCADA in accordance with approved operating procedures.
- Monitor alarms, events, trends, and system performance, and take appropriate corrective actions.
- Coordinate with field technicians during maintenance, testing, and fault restoration activities.
- Record operational events, equipment outages, and maintenance activities in the system logbook.
- Perform routine health checks of SCADA servers, RTUs, PLCs, communication networks, and HMIs.
- Verify communication status between SCADA, RTUs, and field equipment.
- Support preventive maintenance, loop testing, and functional testing of SCADA equipment.
- Escalate critical alarms and system failures to the engineering and maintenance teams.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety procedures, permit-to-work systems, and company policies.
- Assist in system commissioning, upgrades, and software updates when required.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Electrical, Electronics, Automation, Instrumentation, or Control Engineering.
- Experience operating ABB SCADA systems such as Symphony Plus, System 800xA, or MicroSCADA is preferred.
- Knowledge of electrical distribution systems, RTUs, PLCs, HMI, and industrial communication protocols.
- Ability to analyse alarms, trends, and system events.
- Good computer, communication, and report-writing skills.

Preferred Skills

- ABB Symphony Plus or ABB 800xA operation and maintenance experience.
- Knowledge of IEC 61850, Modbus, DNP3, OPC, and Ethernet/IP.
- Experience with industrial networking, fibre-optic communication, and troubleshooting.
- Understanding of electrical protection systems and switchgear operations.
- Ability to work rotating shifts and respond effectively during emergency situations.
