Job Description: Commissioning Engineer – PPC System
(Solar PV Plant)
1. Position Overview
The Commissioning Engineer – PPC System is responsible for installation support, testing,
tuning, and commissioning of the Power Plant Controller (PPC) in utility-scale solar PV
projects. The role ensures compliance with grid codes, seamless integration with plant
SCADA/inverters, and successful synchronization with the grid operator (e.g., transmission
or distribution utility).
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Pre-Commissioning & Preparation
• Review design documents, including:
o PPC architecture and functional design specifications (FDS)
o Grid compliance requirements (e.g., voltage/frequency control, reactive
power support)
o Communication interfaces (MODBUS, IEC 61850, OPC, etc.)
• Verify I/O lists, network architecture, and configuration files.
• Support factory acceptance test (FAT) and site acceptance test (SAT).
B. Installation & Integration
• Coordinate on-site installation of PPC hardware and networking components.
• Ensure integration with:
o Solar inverters
o SCADA system
o Weather stations
o Energy meters and protection relays
• Validate communication between PPC and plant devices.
C. Testing & Commissioning
• Perform functional testing of PPC control modes:
o Active power control (curtailment, ramp rate control)
o Reactive power control (Power Factor / Q control / Voltage control)
o Frequency response and grid support functions
• Tune PPC control parameters for optimal plant performance.
• Conduct dynamic tests and grid compliance tests as per utility requirements.
D. Grid Compliance & Synchronization
• Ensure PPC meets grid code requirements (e.g., SEC, IEC, IEEE, or local regulations).
• Support plant synchronization and grid integration activities.
• Coordinate with:
o Grid operator / utility
o Independent engineer (IE)
o Client representatives
E. Troubleshooting & Optimization
• Diagnose and resolve communication, control, or performance issues.
• Optimize PPC response for stability and performance.
