Description

2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
2.1 Welding Inspection & Monitoring
• Perform visual inspection (VT) of all weld joints before, during, and after welding per ASME Section V and AWS D1.1 acceptance criteria.
• Verify welder qualifications and ensure each welder works within the scope of their valid WPQ (Welder Performance Qualification) and applicable P-Number range per ASME Section IX (QW-423).
• Monitor welding parameters (amperage, voltage, travel speed, heat input) and verify conformance to the approved WPS.
• Verify correct filler metal selection for each joint — including dissimilar metal welds (e.g., ER309L for CS-to-SS joints, ER308L for 304 SS).
• Monitor and enforce interpass temperature limits: maximum 150?C for austenitic stainless steel, per WPS requirements for carbon steel.
• Verify joint preparation dimensions: included angle (60?–75? typical), root face (1.0–2.0 mm), root gap, and bevel angle prior to fit-up acceptance.
• Confirm throat thickness measurements on fillet welds meet minimum design requirements (throat = leg ? 0.707).
• Monitor hot pass application timing and ensure it is deposited promptly after the root pass to prevent hydrogen-induced cracking.
• Verify argon back-purging on all stainless steel welds (O₂ < 0.5%) and ensure SS-dedicated tools are used to prevent carbon contamination.
• Witness and verify rolling vs. fixed-position welding and confirm the welding position matches the WPS/PQR qualification.
2.2 Material Receiving & Inspection
• Inspect all incoming materials (piping, plates, fittings, flanges, bolts, gaskets) against purchase orders and approved MTCs (Mill Test Certificates).
• Verify chemical composition compliance per ASME Section II, Part A/B requirements and confirm heat/lot traceability.
• Perform or witness Positive Material Identification (PMI) testing using XRF/OES and verify results against MTCs.
• Check material dimensions (OD, wall thickness via UT, length) against the applicable ASTM/ASME specification.
• Verify proper material marking, stenciling, and color coding per project and code requirements.
• Reject and segregate non-conforming materials; initiate NCR (Non-Conformance Report) as applicable.
2.3 Quality Management System (QMS) Support
• Support the preparation, review, and implementation of quality procedures including welding control, NDT, material control, calibration, and document control procedures.
• Maintain and update the Quality Manual references and ensure all procedures are current, controlled, and distributed.
• Prepare and maintain Inspection & Test Plans (ITP) and ensure all hold/witness/monitor points are executed.
• Compile and organize quality documentation packages (WPS, PQR, WPQ, MTCs, NDT reports, dimensional reports, pressure test records) for final turnover dossiers.
• Participate in internal and external quality audits and support corrective/preventive action (CAPA) closeout.
2.4 Fabrication & Mechanical Inspection
• Inspect fabrication activities including cutting, beveling, fit-up, alignment, tack welding, and dimensional checks.
• Verify pipe spool fabrication dimensions against approved isometric drawings and report deviations.
• Witness and verify NDT activities (RT, UT, PT, MT) and review NDT reports for compliance with acceptance criteria per ASME Section V.
• Monitor post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) activities on carbon steel joints, verify thermocouple placement, heating/cooling rates, and hold temperatures per WPS and code requirements.
• Inspect pickling and passivation activities on stainless steel welds and verify compliance with ASTM A380/A967.
