Job Summary:
The General Cargo Stevedoring Operation Manager is responsible for the efficient, safe, and
cost-effective planning, coordination, and execution of stevedoring operations for all general
cargo vessels. This role oversees vessel loading/unloading, berth planning, labor coordination,
cargo handling, and compliance with port regulations and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee and manage day-to-day stevedoring activities for general cargo vessels,
including breakbulk, project cargo, heavy lifts, steel products, timber, ro-ro and other
non-containerized cargo.
• Plan vessel stowage and discharge operations in coordination with shipping lines,
terminal planners, and port authorities.
• Supervise foremen, supervisors, and labor gangs during vessel operations to ensure
productivity, safety, and adherence to timelines.
• Ensure compliance with safety, security, and environmental policies during all cargo
handling activities.
• Coordinate berth allocation and vessel scheduling with port control and shipping agents.
• Monitor and control operational costs, including labor and equipment utilization.
• Conduct pre-operation and post-operation briefings to identify improvements and ensure
smooth workflow.
• Liaise with cargo owners, surveyors, customs, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate
documentation and proper cargo handling.
• Identify operational inefficiencies and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain records of operational performance, incidents, and key performance indicators
(KPIs).
• Provide training and mentoring to junior staff and ensure team competence in stevedoring
practices.

Required Qualifications & Skills:
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in general cargo terminal operations, with at least 5
years in a supervisory or managerial role.
• In-depth knowledge of general cargo handling, vessel operations, and port procedures.
• Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations and best
practices.
• Proven leadership and team management skills.
• Ability to analyze operational data and make informed decisions (Computer knowledge).
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Familiarity with cargo documentation systems and terminal operating systems.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, 24/7 operational environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Port/Transport Management, Logistics, or a
related field.
• Certifications in port operations, cargo handling, or safety management (e.g., IMDG,
ISPS, HAZMAT) are an asset.
• Experience with labor environments.
