Objective
The Mechanical Planning Engineer's primary objective is to plan, schedule, and coordinate all mechanical engineering and maintenance activities for long-term projects or ongoing operations at the IBN ZAHR facility. This includes ensuring the efficient and timely execution of work, minimizing downtime, and optimizing resource allocation while adhering to strict safety and quality standards.
Key roles and responsibilities
• Scheduling and planning: Develop, monitor, and update detailed project schedules for mechanical work using planning software like Primavera P6 or MS Project. This includes creating work packages, defining milestones, and identifying the critical path.
• Turnaround (shutdown) planning: Prepare and lead the planning and scheduling for major shutdowns (turnarounds), including the mobilization of personnel, procurement of spares, and contracting of third-party services.
• Resource management: Forecast, track, and manage all necessary resources, including manpower, materials, equipment, and tools, to ensure project activities are completed on time.
• Progress monitoring and reporting: Track daily and weekly work progress against the baseline schedule. Analyze performance data and prepare regular reports, dashboards, and presentations for project management and key stakeholders.
• Risk management: Identify and analyze potential delays, bottlenecks, and project risks. Develop effective recovery and mitigation plans to keep the project on track.
• Inter-departmental coordination: Liaise and coordinate with various teams, including project managers, site engineers, procurement, and subcontractors, to ensure seamless execution of work.
• Technical support and documentation: Prepare technical documents, reports, and job packages. Support the maintenance team by tracking spare parts and technical requirements.
• Continuous improvement: Conduct post-completion analysis of projects or turnarounds to identify areas for improvement in planning procedures and methodology.
• Safety compliance: Ensure all planning-related activities and scheduled work comply with the company's HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) policies and procedures.
Required skills and qualifications
• Education: A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering is typically required.
• Experience: Proven experience as a mechanical or project planning engineer, preferably within the oil and gas, petrochemical, or refinery industries. Experience with long-term capital projects or major maintenance turnarounds is highly valued.
• Technical skills: Proficiency with project planning software such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project. Strong skills in data analysis and reporting are essential.
• Soft skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent communication and coordination skills, and a meticulous attention to detail.
• Location-specific knowledge: Familiarity with the operational standards and regulatory requirements of industrial facilities in Saudi Arabia is a plus.
