Job Summary: The Senior Planning Engineer plays a crucial role in the successful execution of complex
engineering projects. Responsible for planning, monitoring, and controlling project schedules, resources,
and budgets, they ensure that projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget. This
position requires high‐level technical expertise, advanced project management skills, and the ability to
provide strategic advice to senior management.
Key Responsibilities: Project Planning:
Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using project management software (e.g.,
Primavera P6, MS Project).
Define project scope, objectives, and timelines in collaboration with stakeholders.
Identify project milestones and deliverables.
Develop resource plans, procurement plans, and communication strategies.
Monitoring and Control:
Track project progress and performance against the baseline schedule.
Provide accurate and timely reports on the status of the project, including potential delays or
risks.
Perform critical path analysis to identify and mitigate schedule risks.
Review and assess changes to project scope, timelines, and resources, and update schedules
accordingly.
Resource Management:
Collaborate with various departments (engineering, procurement, construction) to ensure
resource allocation aligns with the project timeline.
Monitor resource utilization to avoid under or over‐allocation and recommend adjustments.
Risk Management:
Identify potential project risks related to scheduling, cost, and resource constraints.
Propose risk mitigation strategies and incorporate contingency plans into the schedule.
Coordinate with project teams to address issues that may impact the project timeline or budget.
Reporting & Documentation:
Prepare detailed progress reports for management and stakeholders.
Maintain comprehensive project records, including schedules, reports, and change orders.
Present periodic reports, including Earned Value Management (EVM), to stakeholders to ensure
alignment with project goals.
Collaboration: Work closely with the Project Manager and engineering team to ensure alignment
between project planning and execution. Coordinate with subcontractors and external vendors to
ensure timely delivery of resources and materials. Provide planning and scheduling guidance to junior
engineers or planning staff.
Continuous Improvement:
Review and analyze past projects to identify areas for improvement in planning processes.
Contribute to the development and refinement of internal planning systems and tools.
Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging tools for project planning and scheduling.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (Master’s
degree preferred).
Experience: 5+ years of experience in project planning, scheduling, and management within the
engineering, construction, or energy sectors. Proven track record in managing large and complex
projects. Experience with project management software such as Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar
tools.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of project scheduling, cost control, and risk management.
Advanced understanding of project management methodologies (e.g., PMBOK, Agile).
Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Ability to analyze complex project data and present it in a clear and actionable format.
Excellent problem‐solving and decision‐making skills.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
Desirable Skills:
• Certification in Project Management (e.g., PMP, Prince2) is a plus.
• Knowledge of cost estimation and budgeting processes.
• Experience in the oil and gas, construction, or infrastructure sectors.
• Understanding of engineering design processes and constraints.
Working Conditions:
• Full‐time position, with potential travel to project sites.
• Occasional extended hours or weekend work may be required to meet project deadlines.
