Job Summary
We are looking for a QC Welding Inspector/ NDT Technician who is responsible for conducting visual inspections, and non-destructive testing (including magnetic particle inspections, dye penetrant testing, and X-ray weld tests) to ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards, document inspection findings, and collaborate with inspection teams to maintain quality standards and safety protocols.
Responsibilities
1. Conducting Visual Inspections:
a) Perform visual inspections of various components, welds, or structures according to specified standards and requirements.
b) Identify any visual defects, such as undercuts, slag on the weld cap, missing welds, or other anomalies.
c) Document and report any findings or observations during the visual inspection process.
2. Performing Non-Destructive Testing:
a) Conduct magnetic particle inspections (MPI) on designated areas or welds using the specified equipment and techniques.
b) Carry out dye penetrant testing (DPT) on selected welds or components to detect surface defects or cracks.
c) conduct X-ray weld tests to inspect the internal quality and integrity of welds.
d) Operate X-ray equipment and interpret X-ray images to detect any welding defects or discontinuities.
e) Follow proper safety protocols and radiation protection guidelines during X-ray testing.
f) Use appropriate measurement tools, such as paint thickness gauges, to measure the thickness of paint coatings on surfaces.
g) Ensure that the painting thickness meets the specified requirements and standards.
h) Document and report any deviations from the desired painting thickness.
i) Follow the prescribed procedures and standards for non-destructive testing.
3. Ensuring Compliance and Quality:
a) Adhere to relevant codes, standards, and specifications such as AWS D1.1 for welding and inspection activities.
b) Verify that the inspected items meet the acceptance criteria and quality requirements.
c) Identify and report any non-conformities or deviations from the prescribed standards.
4. Documentation and Reporting:
a) Maintain accurate and detailed inspection records, including inspection reports, certificates, and test results.
b) Prepare inspection reports summarizing the findings, observations, and results of the inspections performed.
5. Safety and Compliance:
a) Follow proper safety procedures and guidelines during inspections to ensure a safe working environment.
b) Adhere to all relevant safety regulations and protocols while carrying out inspection activities.
c) Ensuring compliance with the specified scope and quality standards
Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field, additional technical certifications in welding, non-destructive testing, or related fields are preferred.
2. Proven experience in conducting visual inspections, magnetic particle inspections, dye penetrant testing, and X-ray weld tests.
3. Familiarity with relevant codes and standards, such as AWS D1.1, for welding and inspection activities.
4. AWS certification, such as AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or AWS Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI), demonstrating knowledge and proficiency in welding inspection and adherence to industry standards.
5. Certification from the American Society for Non-destructive Testing (ASNT), such as ASNT Level II or Level III certification in relevant NDT methods, such as magnetic particle testing (MT), dye penetrant testing (PT), or radiographic testing (RT)
6. Proficiency in using inspection equipment, including fillet gauges, paint thickness gauges, and X-ray equipment.
7. Knowledge of proper safety protocols and radiation protection guidelines during X-ray testing.
8. Strong attention to detail and ability to identify visual defects, anomalies, and deviations from standards.
9. Excellent documentation and reporting skills, including the ability to maintain accurate inspection records and prepare comprehensive inspection reports.
10. Effective communication and collaboration skills to coordinate with project teams and other stakeholders.
11. Saudi Driving license.
12. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
13. Strong commitment to safety, quality, and compliance with standards and regulations.
