Description

Duties and Responsibilities,

Ensure patient needs are met by following the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of their care in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Assumes a leadership role and provides professional nursing care to patients within an assigned unit according to established standards and practice and ensures quality care is delivered to patients.
Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Performs procedures accurately, completely and safely according to hospital policy and recognizes emergency situations and takes appropriate action.
Performs a variety of supportive and technical nursing skills and utilizes a range of equipment, supplies, medications, treatments, monitoring techniques and other diagnostic, therapeutic and supportive measures in carrying out medical orders.
Coordinates patient care amongst multidisciplinary team members and documented in the patient’s medical record.
Endorses patient utilizing an effective hand over tool necessary for continuity of care when transferring the patient.
Documents and reports all accidents / incidents to Head Nurse/Charge Nurse and generates incident report and submit to CQI/PS.
Takes personal responsibility for own personal conduct and development and keeps up-to-date with professional change and development.
Seeks opportunities for personal growth and development by participating in in-services, multidisciplinary patient care conferences, continuing education, unit meetings, continuous quality improvement, special projects and give suggestions related for improving services.
Acts as a preceptor and assists with orientation of new staff.
Exercises professional behavior and is responsible for his/her actions as a Registered Nurse and abides with Dress Code.
Responds to all Hospital Codes in their assigned units.
Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned by the Director of Nursing or designee within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities.

Skills

Current experience in a Charge Nurse capacity or potential to fulfill Charge Nurse role.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Is a liaison between the patient, the patient’s family and other healthcare professionals and acts as a patient/family advocate.
Collaborative, able to work with all members of healthcare team in a manner that promotes and encourages each contribution towards achieving optimal patient, family and organizational goals.
Able to respond, anticipate and integrate cultural differences into patient/family care and foster principles of excellent customer service.
Able to facilitate learning for patients/families, nursing staff and other members of the health care team in both a formal and informal educational setting.
Practices within the Professional Code of Conduct.
Able to work 12 hours shift, day or night.
