About the Company
A major mine and quarry operator in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is looking for a Drilling and Blasting Engineer for their busy operations. Annually, the operations blast 15 - 20 million bcm.
During 2023 the company plans to develop further high-volume concessions to meet demand for Neom 2030 vision & other significant infrastructure projects.
Reporting directly to the Operations Managers, you will be responsible for a fleet of modern drilling equipment and supervising the blasting activities required to meet targets, whilst matching set KPI’s
The ideal candidate will be “safety first” minded, technically conversant in using equipment utilising “smart” technology along with a strong background in blasting operations & continuous improvement through blast analysis.
You must be comfortable supervising a multinational work force, with at least 5 years’ experience managing D&B operations in a high-volume open cut mining environment.
Preference will be given to those who are willing to relocate to Saudi Arabia as this is very much a long-term position.

Job Scope

Drill and Blast Engineer, reporting to the Operations Manager.
Responsible for the coordination of all drill and blast activities for the quarry/mine.
This will include supervision of contractor d&b teams, as well as the companies’

Responsibilities for the position include but are not limited to: -

 Provide leadership in safety to all personnel involved in drilling and blasting (d&b) activities.
 Ensure all d&b activities are carried out in accordance with the Quarry Development Plan (QDP)
 Submit a week in advance, a programme detailing the drilling & blasting activities
 The plan must ensure the QDP is followed & rock on ground is sufficient to satisfy processing plant production targets.
 Agree & liaise with the Maintenance department on a continuous basis to ensure that all equipment PPM schedules are met.
 Prepare a blast design for each blast that details the type, quantity and position of explosives and accessories required for each drilled hole.
 Calculate & incorporate a timing sequence within each blast design.
 Submit in good time purchase requests for all required d&B explosives, accessories & consumables, to ensure drill and blast operations are not delayed.
 Ensure free face pre drill surveys are completed for each blast.
 Ensure that drill operators complete for each shift the Pre-Start safety check for their machines and that drill logs are accurately completed for each drill hole.
 Collate all drill data and analyse to ensure the blast design will achieve good fragmentation, a loose rockpile with no back break & most importantly no projection of rock from the blast site (flyrock).
 Supervise blasting operations to ensure holes are charged in accordance with the Blast Design, stemming is correctly placed and the firing sequence is correctly connected.
 Conduct post blast inspections to ensure no misfires have occurred and to note any anomalies.
 Prepare and report on Drill and Blast progress against targets

Qualification Required & Experience

The successful applicant must possess a Degree in Mining Engineering or its equivalent with at least 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
